Cannot rename folder in Vista -- error "The file or folder does not exist"
OK. This problem has been brought up in another thread but obviously my problem is different for some reason because the "fix" in that thread, to download and install the file found at http://www.biline.ca/dl_files/Folder_rename_fix_Vista_32.zip does not work for me. I cannot change the name of a new created folder on my desktop or in folders or subfolders. i can create the folders -- but I cannot rename them from "New Folder." So..I am using Vista Home Premium 6.0.6000 build 6000 on a Gateway MT6821 x86-based PC. I did download the suspect update last summer that is believed to be causing this problem. Can anyone help. when i follow the instructions and download the "fix" from the above link, it doesn't do anything. When I "unzip" it, there is one file "FD32.reg". I feel like I have tried everything. Any new suggestions? Thanks.

I am about to try a fresh clean install of Vista (the previous ended with Media Player 11 and Mobile Centre issues): - wmplayer.exe --> unknown exception (0xc06d007e) occurred in the application at location0x770cb09e. - mobsync.exe --> unknown software exception (0xc06d007e) occured in the application at location 0x770cb09e. - wmvcore.dll --> either is not designed to run on Windows or contains an error ... (mostlikely a WinXP version, as file was absent and I needed it to get things to run. Now those things run--DFx for WinAmp etc--, but they do throw this exception) but this is unrelated to the current issue. Since I was reinstalling I figured I'd try the live-update and download whatever hotfixes, drivers, et all that was available in the Microsoft experience (usually I don't try their fixes and have the updates turned off until a problem arises). Long and short of it was 38 downloads, installs, reboots, now has this problem (only noticed 6 hours later when I tried to fix a mis-type in a download directory). Link offered with the reg key addition involving a lot of "FolderDescriptions" worked like a charm for me. Thanks for the link! Here's to hoping my next install will havea happy solid one.
